Marketing Metrics Worth Tracking (and a Few to Ignore)

Modern marketing tools produce more data than any business can use. The trick is not to track everything. It is to track the few numbers that tell you whether your marketing is helping the business grow.

Metrics that usually matter

  • Leads or inquiries. Calls, form submissions, bookings and chats, broken down by source.
  • Cost per lead. How much you spend to generate each inquiry from paid channels.
  • Conversion rate. The share of website visitors who take the action you want.
  • Lead quality and close rate. How many inquiries become paying customers.
  • Revenue or value by channel. Where possible, connect sales back to their source.

Metrics to treat with caution

Some numbers look impressive but say little on their own. Impressions, follower counts and raw traffic can be useful context, but they do not pay the bills. A small increase in qualified inquiries is often worth more than a big jump in visitors who never contact you.

Measure what connects to revenue first. Everything else is supporting detail.

Set up tracking properly

Good decisions depend on reliable data. Make sure analytics is installed correctly, key actions are tracked as conversions and phone calls from marketing are measured where possible.

Review regularly

Set a monthly rhythm to review the numbers, note what changed and decide what to adjust. Over time, these small, steady improvements add up. If you want help building a reporting setup that makes sense, contact us.
